West Salem softball player wins Maps Credit Union High School Athlete of the Week

West Salem softball player Kaylee Nicholson is the Maps Credit Union High School Athlete of the Week, winning a poll voted on by readers.

In three games, the Titans' senior third baseman hit .667 with two RBI, one double, and three walks. Nicholson tallied a .800 on base percentage, a 1.633 OPS, and had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage.

Boyd Messman, Sprague baseball

Sprague junior catcher Boyd Messman hit two towering home runs and finished 2-for-4 with three RBI in a 6-4 loss to South Salem on April 23.

Grace Mucken, Blanchet Catholic track and field

During a recent home meet, Blanchet senior Grace Mucken set personal bests in the discus (72 feet, 11 inches) and pole vault (9 feet). She also recorded big marks in the javelin (95 feet) and high jump (4 feet, 6 inches).

McKenzee Petersen, Silverton softball

Silverton junior pitcher McKenzee Petersen led the Foxes to a 9-7 win over No. 1-ranked Dallas. Petersen tossed a complete game and struck out five, and also hit a go-ahead home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Kevin Semm, South Salem baseball

South Salem junior third baseman Kevin Semm smashed a walk-off two-run single to help the Saxons to an 8-7 comeback win over Sprague on April 24. Semm also homered in the game. One day earlier, Semm pitched four innings in relief to help the Saxons to a 6-4 victory over the Olympians.
