Meet the Louisville-area high school girls athlete of the week from North Oldham

Which Louisville-area athlete had the best performance during the week of Jan. 8–Jan. 13?

North Oldham's Gracie Sipes has been voted The Courier Journal's Athlete of the Week, following her 30-point performance in last Monday’s 71-57 win against Shawnee. The senior guard followed up the outing with 22 points, five steals and five rebounds in North Oldham's 64-44 victory against Seneca

JaNya Rutledge of Jeffersontown finished second in the poll.

Be sure to check back Monday morning to vote again for The Courier Journal's athlete of the week. The poll closes on Thursday at 6 p.m. and the winner will be announced Friday.

Zakiyah Johnson, Sacred Heart, basketball

Sacred Heart's ZaKiyah Johnson continues to dominate this season. In last week's 71-47 win over Ryle, Johnson dropped 33 points and hauled in 10 rebounds. In the following game against Bishop McNamara, the junior locked in another double-double with 26 points and 11 rebounds.

Mariah Knight, Butler, basketball

Butler senior Mariah Knight had a strong performance against Mercy Academy last Friday. Knight had a double-double, scoring 20 points and nabbing 13 rebounds in the Bearettes' 51-32 victory over the Jags.

JaNya Rutledge, Jeffersontown, basketball

JaNya Rutledge could not be stopped in last Thursday's game against Beth Haven. The senior scored 30 points, shooting 8-of-10 from the field, and grabbed seven rebounds in the Chargers' 54-27 win.

Gracie Sipes, North Oldham, basketball

North Oldham's Gracie Sipes went to work last week for the Mustangs. She scored 30 points, sinking six 3-pointers, to lift the Mustangs to a 71-57 win over Shawnee. The senior guard followed up the outing with 22 points, five steals and five rebounds in North Oldham's 64-44 victory against Seneca.

Leah Stinson, Valley, basketball

Everything clicked for Valley sophomore Leah Stinson last week. The guard scored 22 points in the Vikings' 77-51 win over Western. She returned the following game and dropped 26 points to lift Valley to a 68-38 victory over Portland Christian.
