Vote for Livingston Daily Athlete of the Week (May 20-25, 2024)

Like last week, the Livingston Daily Athlete of the Week ballot is expanded beyond the usual five candidates.

With the spring season is winding down, there’s no sense holding back candidates for future ballots.

This isn’t the 11-athlete ballot I posted last week, but seven is still larger than the norm.

Voting is open until 3 p.m. Wednesday. Vote early, vote often.

While you're here (and thank you for being here), this is where I remind you that you won't find much coverage of Livingston County sports anywhere else, especially once football and basketball end. It costs only $1 for six months of unlimited digital access to all of the Livingston Daily's great high school sports coverage as the biggest events of the spring are taking place.

Last week’s winner was Pinckney track runner Jaelyn Ray.

Lukas Aurandt, Brighton lacrosse

Aurandt scored four of his five goals in the first quarter of a 16-3 regional semifinal victory over Plymouth. Aurandt's final goal gave him 50 for the season.

Amelia Girard, Pinckney tennis

Girard became Pinckney’s first state girls tennis qualifier since Nikki Getsdian in 2003 by reaching the championship match at No. 1 singles with two three-set victories. Girard won 5-7, 6-0, 6-2 over second-seeded Ava Tucker of Grosse Ile and 6-0, 4-6, 6-1 over Hannah Roof of Carleton Airport before losing 6-0, 6-0 to top-seeded Anne-Marie Begola of Chelsea in the final.

Angelle Haan, Fowlerville softball

Haan went 3-for-5 with two home runs and seven RBIs during a 12-8 eight-inning victory over Lansing Waverly in the Greater Lansing Hall of Fame Softball Classic. Her three-run homer in the top of the eighth broke open a one-run lead.

Jake Lewis, Hartland lacrosse

Lewis scored seven goals and six assists during a 26-2 victory over Oxford in a regional semifinal. He had four goals and two assists in the Eagles’ first playoff game.

Violet McWhinnie, Pinckney softball

McWhinnie went 7-for-7 with two home runs in a doubleheader sweep of Brighton. She’s hitting .468 with three homers and 35 RBIs.

Rory Sturos, Howell golf

Sturos was the top Livingston County golfer in the two KLAA tournaments, finishing second overall with a score of 144. He shot 72 in the postseason tournament to lead Howell to a first-place finish.

Ellie Underhill, Howell lacrosse

Underhill made 17 saves in a 9-1 victory over Fenton-Linden in a pre-regional game. It was the first postseason victory in the two-year history of Howell’s program.
