RESULTS: Shelby, North Lincoln standouts claim Week 4 football player of the week honors
Here are the Gaston Gazette and Shelby Star Player of the Week honorees for Week 4 of the 2023 high school football season.
Each week, standout athletes from Cleveland, Gaston and Lincoln counties will be recognized for their work on the gridiron. Readers can vote as often as they like until noon Friday.
Coaches can submit a list of standout performers from their previous week’s game. If you see a noteworthy performance, please encourage your coach to email submissions to jhughes@gastongazette.com.

WEEK 2: Burns, West Lincoln standouts claim Week 2 Player of the Week honors
Cleveland County Player of the Week
Tristan Tate, Shelby
Tate received 59% of last week’s vote to claim player of the week honors. A 5-6, 160-pound running back, he rushed for 164 yards on 15 carries and three touchdowns in a 51-21 win over Olympic.
Gaston and Lincoln Player of the Week
Eli Sipe, North Lincoln
Sipe claimed 73% of last week’s vote. The Knights’ junior quarterback completed each of his four passes for 73 yards with two touchdowns in a Week 4 win over East Rutherford. He also rushed for 83 yards on six carries and a touchdown.
