The Coloradoan is proud to present our weekly Athlete of the Week series for this high school year, partnering with Blue Federal Credit Union to honor the best Fort Collins-area high school athletes.

There are five nominees every week, and fans can vote every Monday through Wednesday at coloradoan.com/sports/high-school-sports.

As we hit the stretch run in the winter sports calendar, here is the 15th edition of the 2023-24 school year for the week of Jan. 14-20.

You can find the ballot at the bottom of the page. Voting is open until 11 p.m. Wednesday each week, with the winner announced on Thursday at Coloradoan.com and via the Coloradoan's Instagram page.

Fans can nominate their favorite athletes (deadline: 11:59 p.m. every Sunday), and the Coloradoan Sports staff will ultimately select the five nominees each week.

If you have nominations for a future Athlete of the Week, please send them via email to ChrisAbshire@coloradoan.com for consideration.

The following athletes are nominated for their performances last week (Jan. 14-20):

  • Avery Alcaraz, Fort Collins girls basketball: The Lambkins' junior continued her standout season with another big week. Alcaraz scored 22 points in a top-10 road win at Rock Canyon to extend Fort Collins' win streak to six games. That followed up a 17-point performance in a blowout win vs. Prairie View, and Alcaraz is averaging over 16 points per game for the 10-2 Lambkins.

  • Cayden Clagett, Fossil Ridge boys basketball: The SaberCats' junior made the biggest play of the week, hitting a game-winning 3-pointer in the final seconds of a 51-50 win over Broomfield. Clagett made three of his five 3-pointers in the game and added four rebounds and four assists in a big win for Fossil Ridge's FRL title hopes.

  • Teresa Collingwood, Rocky Mountain girls swimming: The Lobos' senior looks ready for the swimming postseason. At a local quad meet featuring three city schools and Loveland, Collingwood won the 100-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly races, while also helping Rocky's 400 free relay team take the title.

  • Banks Norby, Poudre boys wrestling: The Impalas' senior is an absolute force right now. He took the 157-pound title at the Top of the Rockies event last weekend, sweeping five opponents to go along with his two dual wins during the week. Norby won five of the seven matches via pin, including four in the first period. He is No. 1 in the 157 class, per On the Mat's latest rankings.

  • Cade Shortridge, PSD boys skiing: The Stars senior is off to a great start through two weeks. He took third against some of the state's best competition at the Steamboat Springs race Saturday, helping the Stars finish runner-up in the boys team competition. It's Shortridge's third top-3 finish in as many races this season.
