Each week during the high school sports season, we will ask our readers to vote for the top performance of the week in all the winter sports, taking a look at events from Monday-Saturday.

Strong fourth quarter allows Pennfield to hold on for win over Marshall

Brevin Bailey helped Pennfield to its first back-to-back wins since December as the Panthers earned victories over Paw Paw and league-rival Marshall. Bailey came up with a big late basket to allow Pennfield to stretch the lead against Marshall in the final two minutes in that 43-40 win, along with a team-high 10 points and six assists against the defending league-champion Redhawks.

Harper Creek heavyweight Ricky Johnson helped the Beavers to a MHSAA Team District championship during the week. He then went on to win an individual district title, taking first place at 285 pounds at the Division 2 district tournament at Stevensville-Lakeshore. Johnson beat Pennfield's Dane Harper in the individual district final, 9-7.

Lakeview Wrestling

Lakeview's Dayveon Rupert finished as a Division 1 district champ at 150 pounds at a MHSAA District tourney at Jackson, earning an 11-3 major decision over Xander Coumeya of Bridgman in the finals. Rupert is now 49-2 on the season. At the MHSAA Team District, he earned wins in both of Lakeview's duals as the Spartans were knocked out in the district final.

Climax-Scotts Girls Basketball

Climax-Scotts guard/forward Holly Talbert continues to have a great sophomore season as she has helped lead the Panthers to a 10-4 record as the team finished under .500 a year ago. Talbert and Climax Scotts have won three of the last four games, with the only loss coming to No. 2-ranked Colon. During that stretch she had a team-high 23 points against Delton Kellogg.
