Vote for the Battle Creek Enquirer Athlete of the Week - Week of Aug. 26

Meet the Battle Creek Enquirer Athletes of the Week, presented by Oaklawn Hospital.

Each week during the high school sports season, we will ask our readers to vote for the top performance of the week in all the spring sports, taking a look at events from Monday-Saturday.

Make sure to vote early and often for your pick, as the winner will get an Enquirer Athlete of the Week T-shirt. Fans can vote for their favorite athlete until Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Lakeview Boys Tennis

Colin Yarger helped Lakeview win the 2023 All-City Tennis Championship. Yarger won at No. 1 singles, sweeping his flight to help the Spartans earn 32 team points to take the title. Lakeview won all eight flights and has finished first in the All-City event in eight straight years.

The Beavers' Nate Jackson caught a touchdown pass from Jesus Macedo in the corner of the end zone, with no time left on the clock, on fourth down to help Harper Creek earn a walk-off 33-32 win over Lakeview in the season opener for both teams.

Lakeview's Isaac Hernandez helped the Spartans win their fifth straight All-City Boys Soccer Tournament championship as he scored two goals in the title game in a 3-0 victory over Battle Creek Academy. Hernandez scored the lone goal in a low-scoring first half and added a tally on a deflection early in the second half.

St. Philip's Colt Myers had three touchdowns rushing and added two touchdown passes to lead the Tigers in a dominating season opener as St. Philip defeated Tekonsha, 60-6, at C.W. Post Field. The quarterback also had eight tackles on defense in the victory.
