Basketball players voted Arizona Republic high school athletes of the week

Millennium High School basketball player Kingston Tosi was selected The Arizona Republic's boys' high school athlete posted in our weekly poll posted on azcentral.com. In the girls poll, two athletes tied for first place.

The weekly polls are sponsored by Diamond Kitchen & Bath.

Tosi was nominated after scoring 35 points, along with 11 rebounds and five blocked shots in a 65-52 win over Desert Mountain. Other boys' nominees were Malachi Huisman, Northwest Christian soccer, who scored all three goals in a 3-1 win over Thatcher; and Dayvon Standard, Buckeye basketball, who scored 25 points in a 72-58 win over Horizon.

In the girls' poll, basketball players Kaycee Steinke of Desert Ridge and Kelsey Watts of Campo Verde tied for first place. Steinke was nominated after scoring 32 points and adding six assists and three steals in a win over Corona del Sol. Watts was nominated after scoring 25 points in a win over Casteel and 15 points with eight rebounds in a win over Highland.

Also nominated was Valerie Llamas, Desert Edge soccer, who scored three goals and added one assist in the Scorpions' win over Youngker.

Nominees are based on performances in AIA-sanctioned sports. Polls are posted on Monday and voting closes Wednesday afternoon. Results are announced the next day on azcentral.com and in The Republic on Friday. Nominees are chosen by Republic sports staff, with input from coaches and readers.
