Seth Crow of Chaparral High School and Kaitlyn Moreland of Pinnacle High School have been selected as this week's Arizona Republic athletes of the week, sponsored by Diamond Kitchen & Bath.

They were chosen by readers in our weekly polls on azcentral.com from among three nominees for the boys' and girls' awards. More than 12,000 votes were cast this week in the two polls combined.

Crow, a member of the Firebirds' swim and dive team, was nominated for his performance at an Oct. 14 tournament at ASU Aquatics Center, where he took first place in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle, and was part of two first-place relay events.

Also nominated for the boys' award were Blake Heffron, Chandler football, who completed 24 of 33 passes for 330 yards and six TDs in a 47-42 loss to Basha; and Joseph Nelson, Hamilton golf, who helped lead the Huskies to 1st place in the CUSD Invitational last week, shooting 5-under for the two-day tournament.

Moreland, a member of Pinnacle's golf team, was nominated after shooting a 4-under to help lead the Pioneers to a win at last week's match over Millennium and Sunnyslope.

Also nominated were Ariel Beltran, ALA Gilbert North swimming, who won the 100-yard fly with a time of 56.11 and the 100-yard backstroke with 57.03 at last week's Charger Invite at McClintock High School; and Samiya Bodhankar, Hamilton badminton, who won the Division I individual state championship last weekend, defeating Lekha Shrivastava of Desert Vista in straight sets.

Weekly polls are posted on azcentral.com each Monday and remain open until Wednesday at 5 p.m. Nominees are chosen by Republic staff, with input from coaches and readers. Submit a weekly nominee at static.azcentral.com/sports/high-schools/nominations/).
