Toledo scored the game's first five points and never trailed in an 86-71 win over visiting Kent State in Mid-American Conference men's basketball Friday night.

Combined with Western Michigan's 90-84 upset of Akron, the Rockets (20-11, 14-4) leapfrogged the Zips (21-10, 13-5) for the MAC regular-season championship and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming MAC Tournament. Toledo and No. 8 Kent State will play again in the first game at 11 a.m. Thursday at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland.

VonCameron Davis scored 20 points to lead four Golden Flashes in double figures against the Rockets. Giovanni Santiago added 14 points, Julius Robbins had 13 and Jalen Sullinger 10 for Kent State (15-16, 8-10), which trailed 36-26 at halftime and by as many as 17 in the second half.

Ra'Heim Moss had 21 points and seven assists for Toledo.
