Von Miller says DeAndre Hopkins wants to play for the Bills

In one short year with the Buffalo Bills, Von Miller has displayed a willingness to be transparent and recruit for his team.

Enter DeAndre Hopkins into that equation now.

Since last season, Miller has openly discussed the possibility of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. joining up with him and the Bills in Buffalo. Miller even confirmed Beckham’s free-agent visit with the team once upon a time, however, he ended up signing with the Baltimore Ravens.

Next up in Miller’s crosshairs might be Hopkins.

After noting he works out with Hopkins in the Dallas area during the offseason, Miller said the All-Pro wideout wants to play for the Bills.

“You got a lot of guys coming in and out. I talk to Hop all the time. It’s kind of like the same thing with OBJ, you just never know until you know. Hop said he wanted to be Buffalo Bill–And you just never know until you get that DeAndre Hopkins signature on a contract,” Miller said via video conference. “I’m not sure of what circumstances are or what’s going on with that. I would love to see DeAndre Hopkins be here. I would love to have his skill set on our offense.”

What those referenced “circumstances” Miller is referring to is Hopkins’ name being tossed around in trade speculation. His current team, the Arizona Cardinals, appear to be reshuffling their deck after firing head coach Kliff Kingsbury.

Previously a report noted that Hopkins’ trade market is “highlighted by” the Bills.

Similarly to the Beckham, Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane hasn’t been shy to discuss such headlines. He did so regarding Hopkins earlier this month, but unlike with Beckham, who the GM always touted as a player, Beane downplayed connections to Hopkins.

“What I would say is… social media is social media. Don’t take that too far,” Beane said.

But the distinct difference between the two receivers would be the manner of acquiring them. Beckham was a free agent. Hopkins is on a team. If Beane openly says he wants him, that’s not going to save him capital in a trade.

Then there’s Hopkins himself. In a recent interview, he suggested he was open to being traded to the Bills.

Where there’s smoke, there could be some fire?

For now, it’s unlikely that anyone will end up making trades that aren’t relating to the 2023 NFL draft next week. But stay tuned.
