Volleyball roundup: Willmar Cardinals get the sweep over Brainerd Warriors

Sep. 19—WILLMAR — The Willmar volleyball team evened up its Central Lakes Conference record.

Hosting Brainerd Tuesday for a homecoming week match Tuesday, the Cardinals move to 3-3 in CLC play with a sweep of the Warriors at the Big Red Gym at Willmar High School.

Willmar won 25-16, 25-21, 25-18.

With the victory, the Cardinals snapped a three-match CLC losing streak. The last conference win came on Aug. 31 at home against St. Cloud Apollo.

Using an aggressive attack, six Cardinals recorded kills and had a .308 hitting percentage. Junior Gretchen Volk led the way with 15 kills, followed by nine apiece by freshman Nora Mitteness and sophomore Brielle Ogdahl. Freshman setter Ellery DeBoer also had five kills to go with her 32 set assists.

Volk also had a team-best 15 digs, followed by 10 from Ogdahl.

Willmar travels to Alexandria at 7 p.m. Thursday.
