Volleyball Roundup: Traverse City St. Francis beats Lake City in battle of top-10 volleyball teams

Oct. 26—LAKE CITY — Just days away from their meeting in the first round of the Division 3 district tournament, fifth-ranked Traverse City St. Francis and sixth-ranked Lake City squared off for a late-season showdown Thursday.

The Gladiators (31-9-1) picked up the win in a back-and-forth four-set thriller, topping the Trojans (40-6-3) by a final of 25-17, 21-25, 26-24 and 26-24.

St. Francis got clutch performances from Avery Nance (18 digs, 3 aces, 4 assists), Reese Jones (7 digs, 6 aces, 32 assists), Quinn Yenshaw (13 digs, 3 aces, 15 kills), Reese Muma (12 kills, 2 blocks), Garnet Mullet (10 digs, 4 aces, 16 kills), Harper Nausadis (2 kills, 2 blocks), Claire Hurley (6 kills, 3 digs, 1 block), Tessah Konas (4 digs, 17 assists), Helen Ludka (2 kills), Landry Fouch (1 kill) and Grace Mason (2 aces).

The Trojans were led by MacKenzie Bisballe (13 assists, 4 blocks, 9 digs, 15 kills), Alison Bisballe (16 assists, 16 kills, 17 digs, 1 block), Hannah Hern (20 digs, 1 kill, 1 block), Hannah Vasicek (12 digs, 1 kill, 1 block), Zoe Butkovich (23 digs, 3 kills, 1 block), Caleigh Schenider (5 digs, 2 blocks) and Hannah Allen (14 digs).

Thursday was St. Francis' final regular-season match, but Lake City hosts Central Montcalm on Saturday for its finale. The Gladiators and Trojans meet again in district tournament play at Manton on Monday.
