Volleyball roundup for Oct. 10: Parkston defeats ranked Wagner; Nielsen earns milestone for KWL

Oct. 10—PARKSTON, S.D. — Parkston secured a key victory on Tuesday night, sweeping Class A No. 4-ranked Wagner in a high school volleyball match. Set scores were 25-14, 25-18 and 25-17.

The Trojans received major production from Avery Bogenreif, who chalked 26 assists, 11 digs and three aces, and Mya Nuebel, who delivered 12 kills and 15 digs. Gracie Oakley added 11 kills for Parkston, Lauren Ziebart had seven kills, Berkley Ziebart had 14 digs and Mya Thuringer had two blocks.

For the Red Raiders, Ashlyn Koupal notched nine kills and 16 digs, Macy Koupal added 15 digs and Kya Kjeldgaard had eight kills and three blocks.

Parkston (18-7) hits the road on Thursday, Oct. 12 to play Parker. Wagner (17-5) gets back on the court on Thursday, Oct. 12 when it hosts Andes Central/Dakota Christian.

WHITE LAKE, S.D. — Kimball/White Lake's Ryann Nielsen picked up 1,000th career kill on Tuesday night in a giant performance but Mount Vernon/Plankinton emerged as winners in a four-set high school volleyball match. Set scores were 22-25, 25-18, 26-24 and 28-26.

Nielsen had 20 kills, 32 assists and 24 digs for the Wildkats, who also had 10 kills, 18 assists and 24 digs from Harley Namanny.

MVP was led by Reagan Rus' 22 kills, while Vanessa Hoffman had 39 assists and 22 digs, with 22 digs also from Berkeley Engelland.

The Titans (13-8) will take on West Central on Thursday, Oct. 12 in Hartford, while KWL (10-13) hosts the road on Thursday, Oct. 12 to visit Sanborn Central/Woonsocket.

* Bridgewater-Emery stumped Colman-Egan to end a three-match losing streak. Lexie Golder's four blocks and six kills lifted the Huskies, while Hayden Hofer had seven kills.

* Burke swept Andes Central/Dakota Christian, improving to 21-3 on the season. Emmie Hausmann tallied 11 kills and four aces for the Cougars, and Elle Johnson had 15 digs. Abigail Svatos led AC/DC with four kills, four digs and two blocks.

* Platte-Geddes swept Miller at home in a battle of central South Dakota Class A stalwarts. No stats were reported but the Black Panthers are now 22-6.

* Claire Mellegaard and Ava Lingemann went for 17 and 14 kills respectively, and Ethan blanked Howard. Madelien Bartscher added 28 assists for the Rustlers. Abby Aslesen tallied 20 kills for the Tigers.

* Winner took care of Chamberlain in three sets. Lexi Klein's 25 assists, 10 digs and three aces fueled the Warriors. Keelie Kuil added 13 kills. Chesney Mutziger had assists for the Cubs.
