Vikings activate Smith, no decision on Peterson, Gerhardt

The Minnesota Vikings activated safety Harrison Smith from the injured reserve/designed for return list on Saturday, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Smith has been out eight games with a turf toe injury and is expected to play Sunday's game against Philadelphia Eagles.

No decision has been made on the playing status of running backs Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhardt, who are listed as questionable.

Peterson sprained his right foot and Gerhart strained a hamstring last Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.

In a series of moves Saturday, the team promoted running back Joe Banyard and cornerback Robert Steeples from the practice squad, placed cornerback Josh Robinson on injured reserve and waived offensive tackle Mike Remmers.

Banyard gives the Vikings insurance in case Peterson and/or Gerhardt cannot play. Steeples was promoted because rookie Xavier Rhodes is listed as doubtful with an ankle injury and Chris Cook is questionable with a knee injury.
