Vero Beach boys track and field wins Region 3-4A title

Vero Beach’s boys track and field team won the Region 3-4A championship held at Dwyer High School Friday with excellent individual performances from field events to the track.

The 4x100 relay team of Michael Carter, Tromance Smith, EJ White and Derrick Williams strolled to victory with a time of 41.38 seconds.

Williams also brought home the victory in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.82 seconds and Carter won the long jump with a best jump of 6.82 meters.

Kenan Willard ran a school record time of 4:23.83 to win the 1,600-meter run and Willard added a fourth-place finish in the 3,200-meter run.

White added a second-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.34 seconds.

Brian Carter earned a runner-up finish in the triple jump with a best leap of 13.65 meters and was third in the long jump with a best jump of 6.66 meters for Vero Beach.

Smith took third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.19 seconds and was fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.01 seconds, Yasnier Rojas took third in the javelin with a best throw of 46.50 meters and Parker Banzhaf ran a new school record time of 1:59.90 to take seventh in the 800-meter run for Vero Beach.

Martin County’s Denzel Alexander had a huge race in the 100-meter dash, bringing home the victory with a time of 10.80 seconds for the Tigers.

Fort Pierce Central’s Tyler Hughes won the high jump for the Cobras with a best leap of 1.97 meters and Akeem Pierre-Louis was fourth with a jump of 1.92 meters and Mikoy Holmes was sixth in the triple jump with a best leap of 13.40 meters.

Gerald Thompson grabbed a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.37 seconds and Arkehl Beauford was sixth with a time of 49.98 for the Cobras.

For the girls, Fort Pierce Central finished fourth as a team led by FAU signee Richelle Williams' performance in the sprints.

Williams earned a runner-up finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.13 seconds, was third in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.25 and took third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.19 seconds for the Cobras.

Williams also helped the Cobra 4x400 relay team along with Tabitha Lincifort, Eltaneia Francois and Harmoni Randolph take third place with a time of 4:07.04.

Nikayia Wilder had a runner-up finish in the discus with a best toss of 36.16 meters for the Cobras and she added a fourth-place finish in the shot put with a best throw of 10.44 meters.

Fort Pierce Central’s Alana Veal was the runner-up in the triple jump with a best mark of 11.05 meters and she was fifth in the long jump with a mark of 5.16 meters for the Cobras.

Vero Beach’s Camryn Reid won the shot put with a best toss of 11.93 meters.

Vero Beach’s Cetirria Evans brought home a runner-up finish in the 400-meter hurdles running a time of 1:06.18.

Vero Beach’s 4x400 relay team of Evans, Azariah Gibson, Jaylynne Moise and Kalani Wright was fourth with a time of 4:10.36.

In Miami at Traz Powell Stadium, athletes from Sebastian River, South Fork, Jensen Beach and Fort Pierce Westwood had strong performances at Thursday’s 4-3A meet to earn or be in the mix for state tournament berths.

Chris Harris won the javelin for the Sharks with a best throw of 46.54 meters and added a sixth-place finish in the discus.

Jon Tumblin was third in the javelin with a best throw of 44.66 meters and Joesph Butler took seventh in the discus.

Noah McMann took seventh in the 800-meter run and the Sharks’ 4x800 relay team took fourth place.

Joniah Holson grabbed a third-place finish in the discus with a best toss of 37.04 meters and was fourth in the shot put with a best toss of 11.55 meters for Sebastian River’s girls.

Jade Hollis-Romanowiz was right behind Holson in the discus with a fourth-place finish with a best toss of 36.26 meters.

Daphne Gibson took eighth in the triple jump for the Sharks.

For the Bulldogs, the girls’ 4x800 relay team of Addison Boyer, Emerson Brinn, Abby McLaughlin and Talia Brown finished third with a time of 9:52.73.

Adriana Jackson took third in the girls high jump with a best jump of 1.52 meters and Connor Critoph took fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:59.02 to qualify for state in each event.

Brinn and Boyer were fifth and sixth in the 1,600-meter run and Boyer grabbed a sixth-place finish in the 3,200-meter run.

Blake Patch was fifth in the 110-meter hurdles and Carter Vigneri took sixth in the 3,200-meter run for South Fork.

Jensen Beach’s Nicholas Colbert grabbed a fourth-place finish in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 9:37.17 and took seventh in the 1,600-meter run for the Falcons.

Chloe Hailey was seventh in the girls javelin throw and Justin Cannata grabbed an eighth-place finish in the 1,600-meter run for Jensen Beach.

Fort Pierce Westwood’s Braylon Vincent took a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.36 seconds.

At the Region 2-2A meet at Astronaut High School on Wednesday, Lincoln Park Academy got a strong showing from Alexandra Watson, who earned points in three different events.

Watson grabbed a third-place finish in the long jump, with a best leap of 5.48 meters and she took sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.91 seconds.

The Greyhounds’ 4x400 relay team of Nalani Smith, Watson, Sydney Daniel and Haven Brown finished in fifth place and Kylie Duffy took seventh in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 13:10.03.

At Saturday’s Region 4-1A Championship at Westminster Academy, John Carroll Catholic senior Grace Reed earned her way to the state meet by finishing as the runner-up in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:46.95.

The Rams’ 4x800 relay team of Alexis Moore, Seleny Martinez, Reed and Juliana Fulmer brought home a fourth place finish, running a time of 10:23.54.

Will Thogersen finished fourth in the boys’ discus with a best toss of 35.55 meters for the Rams.

Paige Lalicon took sixth in the javelin for the Rams, with a best toss of 29.03 meters.

John Carroll Catholic’s boys 4x100 relay team of TJ Alford, Zani Miller, Josh Reynolds and Jaden Mackey took sixth place with a time of 45.78.

Mackey added a sixth place finish in the 400-meter dash for the Rams.

Erick Lopez took eighth in the 3,200-meter run for John Carroll.

St. Edward’s Liz Campbell took eighth place in the girls' 800-meter run for the Pirates.

For all athletes that earned points, at-large berths will be sorted out to determine state qualifiers outside the top two regional finishers in each event.

The state tournament takes place May 17-20 at Hodges Stadium on the campus of the University of North Florida.
