Vermilya wins Player of the Year, Mullet and Geiser named first-team All-Ohio

The Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association released its All-Ohio girls basketball teams Monday and Tuesday, with plenty of representation from the Wayne/Holmes area.

Loudonville's Corri Vermilya headlined the area's All-Ohio group, earning Division IV Player of the Year honors. Vermilya, the runner-up for Ms. Basketball, led Loudonville to its second regional title in school history, re-writing the school record book along the way. She finished the year with averages of 26.3 points, 12.3 rebounds, 6.4 steals and 3.9 assists.

Corri Vermilya won her second straight state Player of the Year award, winning it in Division IV this season after earning the Div. III honor in 2023.

Hiland's Ashley Mullet (East District Player of the Year) joined Vermilya as a Div. IV first teamer and Waynedale's Alyssa Geiser (Northeast Inland Player of the Year) earned first-team honors in Div. III.

Mullet — also a Ms. Basketball finalist — led Hiland to a 25-3 record, losing a heartbreaker to Div. IV state runner-up Waterford in the regional finals. She scored 21 points per game while dishing out five assists per game, doubling as the Hawks' top scorer and creator. Meanwhile, Geiser wrapped up a decorated career at Waynedale, leading the Golden Bears to a 19-6 record against one of the area's toughest schedules before a surprise loss in the district semis.
