Ventura's Engelhardt, Fast Horse run to championship titles at Clovis Invitational

Sadie Engelhardt and Anthony Fast Horse of Ventura High won championship races with blistering times at the prestigious Clovis Invitational on Saturday.

Foothill Tech won the boys small schools team title.

Engelhardt broke the meet record and posted the second-fastest girls time ever on the 5K Woodward Park course by finishing in 16 minutes, 39.3 seconds to lead Ventura to a second-place finish in the Bill Buettner girls championship race. She slipped past Simi Valley's Sarah Baxter, who ran a 16:40 at the 2012 state meet.

Aelo Curtis (17:56.5) and Tiffany Sax (18:19.6) were 13th and 28th for Ventura, which is the state's top-ranked Division II team.

Payton Godsey of Oaks Christian was third (17:05.5) in the girls championship race. Oaks Christian finished 14th. Newbury Park placed 18th behind Sophia Grant (53rd, 19:06.8) and Danielle Brotcke (70th, 19:34.3).

Fast Horse moved to No. 7 on the course's all-time performers list and No. 3 in meet history with a winning time of 14:32.5 in the Rob Brenner boys championship race.

Ventura, which placed sixth as a team, had three of the top 30 finishers. Hollis Costa (15:33.7) and Micah Grossman (15:34.6) were 26th and 28th.

Newbury Park was 12th in the Rob Brenner race. Arnav Shetty (15:47.2) and Asa Fletcher (16:00.1) were 42nd and 60th.

Foothill Tech placed three runners in the top 30 in the small schools boys race. Chance Leandro (16:06.7) was 12th, Conor White (16:24.9) was 20th and Braeden Elliott (16:32.3) finished 26th.

Oaks Christian finished second in the small schools race. Cooper McNee (15:33.4) and Christian Yoder (15:48.6) were fifth and eighth.

Five area schools placed in the medium schools girls race.

Katarina Modrzejewski (19:01.3) placed 14th to lead Oak Park to a seventh-place finish. Tate Creason (19:16.5) was 19th.

Cassidy Kajita (18:18.4) was fifth as Thousand Oaks finished eighth. Madeline Cooper (20:10.6) was 48th.

Agoura finished 17th behind Jenna Johnson (19:21.2), who was 22nd.

Royal placed 21st behind Leanna Olivas (19:49.9), who was 34th. Buena placed 31st.

Rebecca Walker of Foothill Tech was 19th in the small schools girls race in 19:42.4. Keera Wallace (19:57.8) was 26th as Foothill Tech finished 10th.

Oak Park and Agoura placed second and third in the medium schools boys race.

For Oak Park, Grant Jones (16:03.2) and Neal Pettit (16:24.9) were 19th and 28th.

Darrick Jacob (15:58.1) and Matthew Alpert (16:17.0) were 17th and 22nd for Agoura.

Liam Papavasiliou of Thousand Oaks was 12th in the medium schools boys race. Thousand Oaks was 11th. Logan Torres of Buena was 11th in 15:47.8, leading the Bulldogs to 27th.

Rio Mesa placed 35th in the boys large schools race.
