Varsity 845 Watch List: Section 9 girls basketball fields 41 teams across two leagues
Section 9 girls basketball started action this week for the 2023-24 season.
There are 41 teams competing in six divisions of the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association and four divisions in the Mid-Hudson Athletic League, all based on enrollment. In addition, there will be a large-school Class AAA for the first time.
The defending sectional class champions are Monroe-Woodbury (Class AA), Wallkill (A), Red Hook (B), Millbrook (C ) and Webutuck (D).
Millbrook won the state title, beating Randolph 59-45 in the finals. Monroe and Wallkill lost in the state quarterfinals, Red Hook and Webutuck in the first round.
