Vandy win makes little difference in latest USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll

Florida got back on the right track on Saturday, dealing a 42-0 shutout to the struggling Vanderbilt Commodores in Gainesville. But it wasn’t the sharpest performance from the Gators, who needed two missed kicks and a touchdown that was taken off the board under questionable circumstances to preserve the blanking.

UF will need to play better starting next week, when they travel to Baton Rouge to play an LSU team that appears to be in a downward spiral after falling to 3-3 this week. After that, it’s a matchup with Georgia, which is the new No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll.

The Vanderbilt win didn’t do much for Florida in the Coaches Poll. It moved up one spot from No. 18 to No. 17 after beating one of the worst teams in the Power Five. As far as the rest of the SEC goes, Alabama fell four spots to No. 5 after suffering an upset against unranked Texas A&M. The Aggies, in turn, are no longer absent from this list, jumping up to No. 18.

Kentucky, which remained undefeated with a 42-21 win over LSU in Lexington, moved up three spots to No. 11. The only other ranked SEC team is No. 19 Arkansas, which falls just behind the Gators and Texas A&M. Previous No. 19 Auburn dropped out after a 34-10 loss to Georgia.

Here’s the full Coaches Poll after Week 6.
