Vanderbilt football lands DII All-American Nyzier Fourqurean, a Grand Valley State transfer

Vanderbilt football landed its first transfer commitment of the spring with Nyzier Fourqurean, a cornerback from Division II powerhouse Grand Valley State.

The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder played two seasons for the Lakers. In 2022, he made 28 tackles, three tackles for loss, four interceptions, 14 pass breakups and a fumble recovery.

He was named an AP first-team All-American at the Division II level as a sophomore. GVSU won the GLIAC with a 6-0 conference record and 12-1 record overall, ranking as high as No. 3. The Lakers advanced to the quarterfinals of the playoffs.

With one of Vanderbilt's projected starting corners, Jadais Richard, opting to transfer to Miami, Fourqurean provides at the least more depth at the position. He will likely have the opportunity to compete for a starting spot, though it is unclear how production at the Division II level will translate to the SEC.

Other players who could start at corner include Tyson Russell, BJ Anderson and Trudell Berry.

The Commodores have opted to take relatively few players from the transfer portal under coach Clark Lea. They took just one scholarship transfer in the fall, Aeneas DiCosmo from Stanford.
