Vanderbilt football lands commitment from 2024 safety Dontae Carter

Vanderbilt football continued its recruiting roll in Texas by landing a commitment from 3-star 2024 defensive back Dontae Carter on Saturday.

Carter, who projects as a safety, is a 6-foot-1, 175-pounder from Steele High School in Cibolo, Texas. He is ranked the No. 62 safety prospect nationwide by the 247Sports Composite and chose the Commodores over offers from Missouri, Nebraska, Texas Tech, Washington, Oregon State and Purdue.

He joins running back Johann Cardenas as players from Texas to commit in the past week, as Cardenas committed Friday. Carter's high school teammate, Alvin Williamson Jr., also recently commited.

With 21 commits already for 2024, Vanderbilt now has the 33rd-ranked class nationwide albeit with a larger volume of recruits than many other SEC teams. Carter is currently the third-highest rated commit in the class, after Cardenas and Markeis Barrett.

Like many players the Commodores target, Carter also competes in track and field in the triple jump. He is the second safety prospect in the class after Tate Hamby.
