Vanderbilt football injury updates: Junior Uzebu, Savion Riley out vs. Kentucky

Vanderbilt football will be without a starting offensive lineman and a reserve safety against Kentucky this weekend, coach Clark Lea said Thursday.

Junior Uzebu, who started the first game of the season at right tackle, has been out since with a lower-body injury, and Lea said that his injury is longer-term. Safety Savion Riley will miss his second straight game because of an upper-body injury.

Cornerback BJ Anderson, who missed last weekend's 40-37 loss to UNLV with an illness, is questionable after a soft-tissue injury popped up.

"We're . . . planning for him not to be there but want to give them the chance," Lea said of Anderson. "So I think it's just a matter of his just feeling right."

Safety De'Rickey Wright is listed as questionable with an ankle injury. He was not able to practice Thursday but if he feels well enough to play Saturday, he likely will. Fellow safety Jaylen Mahoney is also questionable with a hip injury but returned to practice Thursday.

Quarterback AJ Swann is good to go after dealing with an elbow contusion, and offensive lineman Grayson Morgan is available after being listed as questionable on Tuesday's injury report.

Vanderbilt (2-2) faces Kentucky (3-0) in the SEC opener at 11 a.m. CT on Saturday at FirstBank Stadium.

RAY DAVIS Clark Lea has no regrets about Vanderbilt transfer strategy — but Kentucky's Ray Davis could change that
