Purdue had a comfortable victory in the first round, beating No. 16 seed Grambling 78-50. Zach Edey was the star player and scored an impressive 30 points and 21 rebounds. Braden Smith and Trey Kaufman-Renn also performed well, contributing a combined 22 points to help secure the win against the Tigers.
Utah State defeated the TCU Horned Frogs 88-72 to advance to the second round of the tournament. Ian Martinez scored 21 points, and Isaac Johnson added 19 points in the win over the Horned Frogs.
