USC baseball projected to make NCAA Tournament as conference tournaments wind down

The NCAA Baseball Tournament starts next weekend. The selection show is Monday at 9 a.m. Pacific time. Saturday and Sunday feature the semifinals and finals of the remaining conference tournaments in college baseball. Where does USC stand on the bubble with just two days left before the field of 64 teams is announced?

In a very good position, as it turns out. Kendall Rogers, the managing editor of the highly-respected site D1Baseball.com, released his latest NCAA Tournament projections and bubble breakdowns on Saturday morning, with just two days of play left before the tournament field is revealed. USC is in the tournament, slotted as a No. 3 seed in the Stillwater (Oklahoma) regional hosted by Oklahoma State. USC is not one of the “last four teams in” the field, which is notable.

Arizona State is a last-four-in team. The Sun Devils might get knocked out if Arizona wins the Pac-12 Tournament championship on Saturday against Oregon. USC is not in the same precarious situation as ASU. The very last team in the field as of Saturday morning is Oklahoma, but the Sooners have been eliminated from the Big 12 Tournament. They cannot move up. Notre Dame is one of the first four teams out of the field, and the Fighting Irish have been eliminated from the ACC Tournament. They can’t move up.

USC is fully expected to make the NCAA Baseball Tournament for the first time since 2015. We’ll get to find out Monday morning where the Trojans are heading.
