USC’s Austin Overn invited to training camp for USA Baseball Collegiate National Team

USC freshman centerfielder Austin Overn has been invited to participate in the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team Training Camp. The event features 56 of the nation’s top college players who are not yet draft eligible. They’ll practice and compete in the four-game Stars vs. Stripes intrasquad series in late June, trying to earn a spot on the 26-player USA Collegiate National Team roster.

Overn set USC’s single-season triples record with an NCAA-leading 14 this season, finishing just three away from the NCAA record (17) and one away from the Pac-12 record (15).

The USC star baseball player, who is also a walk-on for the football team at wide receiver, started every game for USC baseball this past season, hitting leadoff and generating a .314 batting average and a team-high 54 runs scored. Overn also added four homers, 11 doubles, 38 RBI and a .932 OPS. His 16 stolen bases were seventh in the Pac-12 Conference. He earned All-Pac-12 and Pac-12 All-Defensive Team honors in his first collegiate season.

USC was surprisingly left out of the NCAA Tournament field of 64, finishing fourth in the Pac-12 with a 17-13 league record and with its best overall record since 2015.
