Upper Arlington's Ella Dean is OSU Wexner Medical Center high school Athlete of the Week

In a vote that ended Oct. 6, Dispatch.com readers selected the The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center high school Athlete of the Week for competitions that took place from before Oct. 1.

This week's winner is Upper Arlington water polo player Ella Dean.

Dean scored two goals from her goalie position in a 9-5 win over Worthington Kilbourne, then scored again during a tournament in Cincinnati. For the week, she had 72 saves, six assists, five steals and three goals. For the season, she has 263 saves, a 78% save rate, 18 assists, 16 steals and five goals.

Dean received 41.6% of the vote and was followed by Westerville South football player Zay Furman, who received 36.4%, Harvest Prep football player Chris Brown Jr. (7.2%), Dublin Jerome soccer player Ella Fuller (3.7%), the Olentangy offensive line of Chase Selhorst, Alex Post, Micah Krenek, Bryce Quisenberry and Kyle Davis (3.2%), Whetstone golfer Jonas Conn (1.6%) and Fairfield Christian football player Danny Blair (1.5%).

Furman, the runner-up, had nine tackles (eight solo) and a fumble recovery in a 21-13 win over Westerville North.

Brown had two receiving touchdowns, a 97-yard kickoff returned for a TD and a blocked punt returned for a TD in a 47-0 win over Richmond Heights.

Fuller scored the game-winning goal in the final minutes against Olentangy Berlin. She previously had scored the winner vs. Bexley.

High school sports: Here's how to nominate Columbus area high school sports Athletes of the Week in 2023-24

The Olentangy offensive line played key role in 52-7 win over Thomas Worthington. Olentangy rushed for 139 yards on 31 carries, and quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer completed 12 of 15 passes for 200 yards and two scores with no interceptions. The Braves punted only once.

Conn shot a 40 to win City League medalist honors for the second consecutive season and lead his team to the title. Conn is a three-time first-team all-City honoree.

Blair rushed for 464 yards and six touchdowns on 36 carries in a  61-58 win over Rosecrans.

Nominations are due Monday mornings for competitions that took place the previous week.

Anyone can nominate an athlete through Twitter tagging @BrianWhite13 or by email to bwhite1@dispatch.com.

Once athletes win during the regular season, they're not eligible to be back on the ballot until the postseason. Athletes who have not been a recipient of one of the weekly awards can be nominated more than once.
