UND's Elise Ulseth earns All-American honorable mention in heptathlon

Jun. 12—EUGENE, Ore. — Elise Ulseth entered Saturday in 23rd place in the heptathlon at the 2022 NCAA National Championships.

Thanks to excellent marks in the long jump and javelin, the UND track and field athlete climbed up to 17th and earned All-American honorable mention.

Ulseth finished the heptathlon with 5,326 points at Hayward Field.

Florida sophomore Anna Hall won the event with 6,385.

Ulseth's top two events in the heptathlon were the high jump and javelin. She finished sixth in both. Ulseth cleared 5 feet, 7.75 inches in the high jump. She threw the javelin 137 feet, 11 inches.

Ulseth also finished 11th in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 10 inches.

Ulseth finished 15th in the 800 run (2:23.61), 18th in the 100 hurdles (:14.10) and 23rd in the shot put (33-11.5) and 200 dash (:26.97).

The 17th-place finish in the heptathlon was one spot away from second-team All-American honors.

Ulseth has two years of eligibility remaining in outdoor track and field and one year of indoor.

The athlete from Kristiansund, Norway, transferred from Queens University in Charlotte, N.C., to UND in January to follow her coach, Jim Vahrenkamp.

In one semester at UND, Ulseth has set several school records.

During the outdoor season, she set school records in the 100 hurdles (:13.65), long jump (20-10.75), javelin (165-0), pentathlon (5,685) and tied the school record in the high jump (5-8.5).

During the indoor season, Ulseth set school records in the high jump (5 feet, 9.25 inches), long jump (19-3.25) and pentathlon (4,080).
