UNCW baseball a No. 3 seed in NCAA Tournament, will play in Conway

The UNCW baseball team is a No. 3 seed in its NCAA Tournament regional.

The Seahawks will be traveling to Coastal Carolina, where they'll face a four-team, double-elimination bracket that runs from June 2-5 with a chance to advance to the super regional round the following week. If the team can progress past the tournament's first two rounds, it will earn a spot in the College World Series starting June 16 in Omaha, Nebraska.

UNCW (34-21) earned an automatic spot in the 64-team tournament as it defeated Northeastern for its third CAA Tournament title in the last five years Sunday.

UNCW infielder Taber Mongero said the journey to the Conway Regional has felt surreal.

"Last night, on the bus ride home, I just felt like I was gonna wake up from a dream any moment," Mongero said of winning the CAA Championship.

The Seahawks went a perfect 3-0 in the CAA Tournament, battling past Northeastern twice after winning the regular-season title the week before. Dillion Lifrieri, who got the Seahawks on the board first with his first-inning solo home run in Sunday's championship game, was named the tournament's most valuable player.
