UNC football 2025 commit flips to NC State

Mack Brown and the North Carolina Tar Heels got some bad news on Saturday afternoon in terms of a 2025 commitment. Just a few weeks after in-state tight end Gus Ritchie committed to North Carolina on a live stream with Inside Carolina, he decommitted.

But that’s not the end of it.

Ritchie announced that he was de-committing from North Carolina and committing to N.C. State. He took to Twitter to announce his decision which now gives UNC just one 2025 commitment and adds a second for the Wolfpack in their class:

The timing is certainly interesting, just 11 days after he committed on a live podcast with Inside Carolina saying how much he loves the program. Being listed as an athlete in the 2025 class could mean that NC State is potentially recruiting him at a different position which may have been the biggest factor.

Ritchie is a three-star recruit that is ranked No. 369 nationally, the No. 32 athlete and No. 9 player in the state of North Carolina per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.
