Here’s how ULM landed OU transfer and Shreveport native General Booty
A quarterback with strong Shreveport connections is departing Oklahoma football and will suit up this fall as a ULM Warhawk.
General Booty, the well-traveled son of former Evangel and LSU wide receiver Abram Booty announced the move on Twitter before speaking with the USA TODAY Network Wednesday afternoon. He attended Calvary Baptist through the fifth grade.
“I was in Shreveport until I was 12 years old, and I have a lot of great memories and friends in Louisiana,” he said.
Booty decided to enter the portal seeking a better opportunity to get on the field during his last two seasons of collegiate eligibility. The nephew of Josh and John David Booty, General said ULM coach Bryant Vincent made an instant impression.
“His vision for the program along with the staff and team he has put together was very impressive,” Booty said. “Secondly, being close to where I grew up in Shreveport all my family will be able to come to the games and watch me play.
“Lastly, the history of quarterbacks in the (ULM) program with guys like Stan Humphries and Doug Pederson (a former Calvary coach) who have come through there and the love for football in the community of Monroe.”

After playing at three high schools, Booty became a three-star recruit at his fourth school, Allen (Texas) in 2021. There he passed for 2,235 yards and 26 touchdowns, while rushing for 401 additional yards and nine more scores.
“It was a different experience, but I had a good time meeting new people and playing in different systems,” Booty said of his high school movement. “I felt it helped me grow on and off the field.”
He spent one season at Tyler Junior College in 2021 starting all 12 games and leading his team to a 7-5 record. He led the NJCAA in completions (266), attempts (436) and passing yards (3,410) with 27 TDs. He transferred to OU in 2022 and appeared in one game against TCU that fall. Last season, he played briefly in the Sooners’ season opener against Arkansas State.
“I loved the time I have got to spend at OU. The people make that a special place,” Booty said. “I got to learn from Dillion Gabriel how to attack each game week and prepare. From coach Venables, I learned how important it is to establish culture and I will cherish my time I had with all my teammates.”
