UIL State Softball: Coahoma tops Santa Gertrudis Academy for 3A state title

AUSTIN — Coahoma ace Hannah Wells held the stout Santa Gertrudis Academy lineup in check and hit a seventh-inning home run to help the Bulldogettes capture their second state championship with a 4-2 win on Thursday at Red & Charline McCombs Field.

The Bulldogettes (36-3) fell short in the state championship game last season and with another crack at it they used single runs in the fourth and sixth innings to lead the Lions 2-1 in the seventh before Wells parked an offering over the tall center field wall for a two-run home run.

In her two previous at-bats she was intentionally walked by the Lions.

It served as key insurance as Izzy De Los Santos brought home the final SGA run with an RBI single in the seventh inning.

Santa Gertrudis Academy fell one game short in its first state appearance since 2018, which produced the school's state title, and fifth overall.
