UIL Softball Playoffs: Iowa Park, Burkburnett moving on to region semis

A roundup and recap of the regional quarterfinal round of the UIL high school softball playoffs for the Wichita Falls area.

Iowa Park sweeps No. 8 Jacksboro

BOWIE — Iowa Park is a dangerous ballclub now that ace Callista Berrett is back.

The Lady Hawks proved that Friday night as they swept No. 8 Jacksboro 6-1 and 5-3 to advance to the regional semifinals where Amarillo River Road awaits.

Halli Kennedy had three hits and three RBIs in the opener, and that’s all the support Berrett needed as she limited the Tigerettes to five hits and one unearned run.

With its season on the line, Jacksboro scored three runs in the fifth inning of Game 2 as Shelby Seaberry delivered a two-run single.

However, the Lady Hawks countered with four runs with two outs in the sixth inning. Rylan Raschke had an RBI single, and Raylee Huse drove in two runs on a blooper to right field, coming around to score on a throwing error.

Berrett limited the Tigerettes (who scored 23 runs last week against Clyde) to 10 hits for the series, striking out 10.

Burkburnett finishes off Snyder

ABILENE — After dropping Thursday’s opener, Burkburnett bounced back to eliminate Snyder with a 12-2 victory in Game 3 Saturday at Cooper High School.

Natalie Gray hit a three-run homer in the first inning and earned the win in the circle, allowing only one earned run in five innings. The Lady Bulldogs totaled 14 hits in the rubber match, including three by Whitney Hefton.

The Lady Bulldogs, who will face Pampa next, forced Game 3 with a 6-5 win on Friday in which they rallied back from a 5-1 deficit. Keiylah Barr had the game-deciding RBI single as part of a three-run fifth inning.

Canada leads Archer City to next round

GRAHAM – Addison Canada was dominant during her no-hitter Friday night, striking out 12 Lipan batters in Archer City’s 1-0 victory.

Not only that, but Canada tripled in the fourth inning and came around to score on Alyssa Schroeder’s sacrifice fly for the only run in this Region II-2A one-game matchup.

Archer City (17-13-1) advances to face No. 3 Riesel in the regional semifinals.

Top-ranked Coahoma ousts Henrietta

ABILENE – Kirstyn Barnard kept Coahoma’s bats quiet for the first four innings Thursday, but the defending Class 3A champions erupted for seven runs in the fifth and sixth frames to end Henrietta’s season, 7-0.

Hannah Wells, a University of Texas commit, limited the Lady Cats to one hit – a Kaitlyn Bryant double in the first inning. Henrietta ends its season at 22-14-1.

Borden County sweeps Harrold

HERMLEIGH — Facing elimination, Harrold’s Jaylee Lowe hit a game-tying homer in the seventh inning Saturday afternoon to prolong Game 2.

However, Borden County pushed across the series-clinching run on an error in the bottom half of the seventh, moving onto the regional finals with a 6-5 victory. Harrold finishes at 18-5.
