UFC’s Miles Johns suspended six months for prescribed Adderall use, fined by NAC

Miles Johns has been suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission.

The UFC bantamweight and the NAC reached an agreement following a positive drug test for prohibited substance Adderall. Johns (12-2 MMA, 3-2 UFC) tested positive for the amphetamine in a urine test collected Feb. 5 – the day of his fight against John Castañeda at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

The news of Johns’ suspension was announced on Wednesday during the NAC’s monthly meeting.

Johns received a six-month suspension, along with a $3,450 fine, which amounts to 15 percent of his fight purse earned in his UFC Fight Night 200 bout against Castañeda. Johns’ suspension terminates on Aug. 5.

The 28-year-old had not disclosed his use of Adderall to the commission, but he cooperated and was able to reach an agreement with the NAC as he provided evidence of medical need and prescription of the substance after the fact. Adderall commonly is used to reduce hyperactivity and improve attention span and treat ADHD.

Johns hasn’t competed since his third-round submission loss to Castañeda. Prior to the defeat, he was coming off two consecutive knockout wins in the octagon, which each earned him $50,000 Performance of the Night bonuses.

Johns is the second fighter in recent months to be suspended for using prescribed Adderall. In November, the NAC also agreed to a settlement deal with Kevin Lee stemming from his Aug. 28 UFC loss to Daniel Rodriguez in Las Vegas.
