UFC on ESPN 46 post-event facts: Jared Cannonier, Marvin Vettori set striking records in main event

UFC on ESPN 46 on Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas proved to be a historic night.

The main event saw Jared Cannonier (17-6 MMA, 10-6 UFC) emerge from a key matchup of former middleweight title challengers with a unanimous decision win over Marvin Vettori (19-7-1 MMA, 9-5-1 UFC) in which he set a new single-fight record for most significant strikes landed in a divisional contest.

The UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance payout for the event totaled $140,000.

Cannonier, Vettori, Alessandro Costa and Manuel Torres earned $50,000 UFC on ESPN 46 fight-night bonuses.

The UFC sold VIP tickets to fans for UFC on ESPN 46, but the promotion did not make public the total number of tickets sold or the gate.

Betting favorites went 6-4 on the card. One fight ended in a no contest.

Betting favorites fell to 12-8 in UFC headliners this year.

Total fight time for the 12-bout card was 2:12:50.

Jared Cannonier def. Marvin Vettori

Cannonier improved to 7-2 since he dropped to the UFC middleweight division in November 2018.

Cannonier’s 241 significant strikes landed set the single-fight record for a UFC middleweight bout.

Cannonier and Vettori combined for 394 significant strikes landed, the single-fight record for a UFC middleweight bout.

Vettori has suffered all seven of his career losses by decision.

Arman Tsarukyan (20-3 MMA, 7-2 UFC) has earned 13 of his 20 career victories by stoppage.

Joaquim Silva (12-4 MMA, 5-4 UFC) has suffered all three his career stoppage losses by knockout.

Armen Petrosyan def. Christian Duncan

Armen Petrosyan (9-2 MMA, 3-1 UFC) has earned all three of his UFC victories by decision.on.

Christian Duncan (8-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) had his eight-fight winning streak snapped for the first defeat of his career.

Pat Sabatini def. Lucas Almeida

Pat Sabatini (18-4 MMA, 5-1 UFC) has earned 13 of his 18 career victories by stoppage.

Lucas Almeida (14-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) fell to 2-2 in his past four fights after starting hid career on a 12-fight winning streak.

Almeida suffered the first stoppage loss of his career with a submission defeat.

Manuel Torres def. Nikolas Motta

Motta has suffered both of his UFC losses by knockout.

Nicolas Dalby def. Muslim Salikhov

Nicolas Dalby (22-5-1 MMA, 6-4-1 UFC) improved to 5-2 since he returned to the UFC for a second stint in September 2019.

Dalby has earned all six of his UFC victories by decision.

Muslim Salikhov (19-4 MMA, 6-3 UFC) suffered the first decision loss of his career.

Alessandro Costa def. Jimmy Flick

Alessandro Costa (13-3 MMA, 1-1 UFC) has earned 10 of his 13 career victories by stoppage.

Jimmy Flick (16-7 MMA, 1-2 UFC) has suffered six of his seven career losses by stoppage.

Flick has suffered all six of his career stoppage losses by knockout. That includes both of his UFC defeats.

Kyung Ho Kang def. Cristian Quinonez

Kyung Ho Kang (19-9 MMA, 8-3 UFC) improved to 6-2 since he returned to competition from a nearly 3.5-year layoff in January 2018.

Kang’s four submission victories in UFC bantamweight competition are tied for third-most in divisional history behind Rani Yahya (six) and Urijah Faber (six).

Cristian Quinonez (18-4 MMA, 1-1 UFC) has suffered all four of his career losses by stoppage.

Carlos Hernandez def. Denys Bondar

Carlos Hernandez (8-3 MMA, 1-2 UFC) has earned both of his UFC victories by decision.

Tereza Bleda def. Gabriella Fernandes

Gabriella Fernandes (8-3 MMA, 0-2 UFC) has suffered all three of her career losses by decision.

Modestas Bukauskas def. Zac Pauga

Modestas Bukauskas (15-5 MMA, 3-3 UFC) improved 2-0 since he returned to the UFC for a second stint in February 2023.

Zac Pauga (6-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) suffered the first decision loss of his career.
