UConn's Dan Hurley says Purdue center Zach Edey is 'the best college player that I've seen'

UConn coach Dan Hurley has seen a lot in college basketball. However, he's seen no player provide an impact like Purdue basketball forward Zach Edey.

"He's obviously, the best college player that I've seen, in terms of the impact and the production," Hurley told CBS Sports ahead of UConn and Purdue's national championship game on Monday night. "It's like Ralph Sampson-esque, in terms of just how his size changes the gravity of the court on both ends of the court. The way that the roster this year is constructed around him, to be the best 3-point shooting team or even the second-best 3-point shooting team.

"Just the tactics, and the way (Purdue) utilizes a player of his caliber is what makes it really scary."

Edey, who just won his second consecutive Naismith that honors the nation's player of the year, averaged a Division I-leading 24.9 points per game this season with 12.2 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. The 7-foot-4 senior will hope to lead the Boilermakers to their first ever national champion when they face the defending champion Huskies in Phoenix.

Hurley, in his sixth season at UConn, has rebuilt the once-powerhouse program back to the spotlight, as the top-overall seed in 2024 and a spot in the national championship in back-to-back seasons.
