UCF announces date, time for annual spring football game

The 2022 UCF football season ended less than a month ago and the Knights are already planning their next step with the new year well underway.

UCF will hold its annual spring game on April 14 at 6:30 p.m. at FBC Mortgage Stadium, the program announced Tuesday.

The Friday evening kickoff time snaps a streak of back-to-back noon Saturday spring games and it becomes the first UCF spring game to begin at night since 2018.

This year’s game also will feature “Knights vs. ‘Nauts,” the latter a shortened version of UCF’s secondary space-themed nickname Citronauts.

For the last six years, the program has honored the university’s ties to NASA’s space program with space-themed uniforms but never before has the spring game been a part of that recognition.

The spring game will be a first look at UCF’s new offense and defense under recently hired offensive coordinator Darin Hinshaw and recently promoted defensive coordinator Addison Williams.

It’ll also provide a sneak peek of UCF’s new players, including nine additions from the NCAA transfer portal and nine early enrollees from the 2023 recruiting class.

Receiver Trent Whittemore (Florida) and offensive lineman Amari Kight (Alabama) will look to fit into UCF’s offense while freshman defensive linemen Kaven Call (Apopka) and John Walker (Osceola) try to make their mark early.

More details on the event will be available at a later date, UCF said in a release.
