U15 Auburndale girls soccer makes history
AUBURNDALE ― For the first time in the 28-year history of the program, the U-15 girls Auburndale Scream has advanced to the Southern regionals.
The girls got the chance after competing in the Florida State Premier League for the first time, winning most of their games and competing in the Florida State President’s Cup over the weekend. The Scream beat the St. Pete Raiders 2-1 — Parker Purdie and Harli Head scored — in the semifinals before winning 1-0 over the Brandon Fish Hawk in the finals on Sunday at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.
“I’m beyond proud," second-year head coach Kristi Durden said. "Two years ago, we started out a little rough around the edges. We are incredibly proud of them.”
The lone scorer for Auburndale in the finals was Head, who received a pass from Brooke Shannon before booting the ball in for the game’s only score.
Auburndale (10-6-4) will now move on to the Southern regionals slated for June 14-18 in Greenville, South Carolina.
“We plan to work extremely hard within the next six weeks, and I have total confidence they’ll do well in South Carolina,” Durden said.
The competitive soccer program is for young players who are aspiring to play at a higher level than just recreational. The ultimate goal is to get the girl athletes to play at the highest level possible and ready for college.
Tryouts will be in early May for next year’s team. For more information, go to auburndalescream.demosphere.
