Tyrann Mathieu saga ends with All-Pro safety signing with Saints

The speculation as to where Tyrann Mathieu would be playing next season hit ludicrous speed back in March when it was clear the Chiefs were not bringing him back. There were even some quasi rumors the ‘big name’ safety was close to a deal with the Raiders.

Those rumors never materialized to anything that was to be taken seriously, but it didn’t stop the sugar plums from dancing in the minds of Raider Nation imagining the All-Pro patrolling the middle of the field in Las Vegas.

Raiders fans weren’t alone in their fantasies surrounding Mathieu. He was doing a tour of several NFL teams to find a home. And today he found it — and it was his home all along.

The St. Augustine Louisiana native and LSU grad signed with the New Orleans Saints on a three-year deal according to Ian Rapoport.

With the draft out of the way, the deal was clearly a top priority for the Saints and for Mathieu. A homecoming for Honey Badger and a boon for the Saints.

As for the Raiders, their starting safeties figure to once again be former first-round pick Johnathan Abram and 2021 round two pick Tre’von Moehrig.
