Tyler Lockett ‘more nervous than excited’ about playing in 2020
The Seattle Seahawks’ number one receiver has not held back when discussing his uncertainties and doubts about the 2020 NFL season, which is moving forward in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I don’t know if it’s going to work, I don’t know if it’s not going to work,” Tyler Lockett said last week in a video call with Q13 Fox’s Aaron Levine. “I think everybody’s just more concerned with the unknown… what happens when we go to those hotels? What happens when somebody gets sick on the road?”
Lockett previously expressed concerns about a perceived lack of league-wide safety procedures in last month’s #WeWantToPlay campaign on Twitter.
“I am very, very nervous, I can tell you that,” Lockett told Levine. “I’m more nervous than excited, so we’ve just got to play it by ear . . . I don’t want to be somebody that’s carrying something, that’s asymptomatic, and I give it to a family member and I’ve got to deal with the fact that I was the reason this person died.
“Some coaches are concerned too because they’re of age where they might not be asymptomatic.”
As of August 11, two head coaches – Sean Payton and Doug Pederson – have tested positive for the virus over the offseason. Payton, who has since recovered, described having mild symptoms; Pederson is currently asymptomatic. Both coaches are under 60 years old.
In light of the NCAA’s Big 10 and Pac-12 conferences canceling their football seasons on Tuesday, expect Lockett and other #WeWantToPlay participants to speak further on the NFL’s developing safety protocols.
