After two stints at Mishawaka, legendary volleyball coach Steve Anderson calling it quits

After two stints at Mishawaka High School, totaling 34 seasons, legendary volleyball coach Steve Anderson has announced his retirement.

Mishawaka High School put out a press release early Friday evening on X, formerly Twitter, announcing the news.

"I have been a coach for nearly five decades and will cherish the time spent teaching players the love of the game and the personal relationships with players and families,'' Anderson said in the release. "One of my proudest accomplishments in coaching is seeing all the volleyball banners in the Cave and remembering each player through the years.''

Anderson's future plans include continuing to support current and future kids by providing camps and club opportunities.

Anderson finishes with an overall record of 913 wins and 262 losses at Mishawaka.

His first stint at Mishawaka ran from 1979 to 2005 when he had a record of 774-139. And his second go-round went from 2016-2023 when he had a record of 138-123.

Career accomplishments include three state championships and four state runnerup finishes, 16 state finals appearances, 19 sectional titles, 18 regional titles and 12 semistate championship. Along the way, his teams won 23 Northern Indiana Conference crowns. He was the NIC's Coach of the Year 10 times, was inducted into Mishawaka's Hall of Fame in 1995 and Indiana's Hall of Fame in 2011.
