Twitter reactions to the Dolphins' selection of Patrick Paul with the 55th pick
The Miami Dolphins selected offensive lineman Patrick Paul out of Houston Friday night with the 55th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Paul gave up just two sacks in 1,036 pass-blocking snaps over two seasons, and will be a welcome addition to the line.
Grier said Patrick Paul was the highest-rated player on their board and the Dolphins weren't necessarily drafting for need.
That tracks -- tackle wasn't an immediate need but it will quickly become one once Armstead retires— Marcel Louis-Jacques (@Marcel_LJ) April 27, 2024
While some believe it's another developmental pick from General Manager Chris Grier, you can't argue with size. Paul is 6-foot-7, 331 pounds, and has the frame to make an impact behind Terron Armstead, who is expected to retire after this season.
His numbers in pass protection will help ease fans worries in addition to his physical attributes. Paul has a 72.5 inch wingspan and 9 3/8th inch hand size.
Omfg Patrick Paul? I never expected him to even be there. Dude is absolutely massive and an elite pass protection. Def needs to get a bit better at anchoring and his hands but this is another high end potential pick. #GoFins

Dolphins OT Patrick Paul has arms that "fill the hallway" according to GM Chris Grier and coach Mike McDaniel.
They appear to be 36 1/4 inches, which is very long. Perhaps the longest in the tackle class.— Joe Schad (@schadjoe) April 27, 2024
This dude’s physical traits … are insane smart pick to get a future left tackle after armstead leaves next year

While Paul's physical traits are overwhelming positive, his tape reflects poor technique. Some say it's another waste of a pick with ready-made talent still on the board.
Grier said he'll able to switch from between left and right tackle, but fans say that's not enough for a team in win-now mode.
Miami has selected two backups with their 1st two picks. This is gross.

What are we doing? I’m all for lineman but we need dudes who can play now. Not when Armstead retires.

The #Dolphins reached when they selected Jackson 18th overall in 2020, and they paid the price for years waiting on his development
Paul is projected to be the left tackle of the future but will likely be relied on to make starts there as a rookie. Will he be ready?#GoFins— Ryan Smith (@PFF_RyanSmith) April 27, 2024
Just awful. Two picks and they take a sub package pass rusher and a tackle who won’t play. What a massive missed opportunity. Wasn’t even close to the best tackle on the board. Kingsley Suamataia, Blake Fisher, Rosengarten.
