Twitter Reaction: Ducks’ electric season falls short of World Series with Game 3 loss to Oral Roberts
On Saturday night, the Oregon Ducks were two outs away from making it to their first College World Series since 1954.
It turns out that they would never get closer than that.
After the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles rallied to get a walk-off win over the Ducks in Game 2 of the Super Regionals, they stormed ahead in the final game of the series on Sunday afternoon, winning 11-6 and advancing to the College World Series.
The Ducks initially got out to a 3-1 lead early in the game, but the pitching ended up running out down the stretch, and a handful of unforced errors allowed Oral Roberts to run away with the victory.
While the season came to an unfortunate end, it should be largely viewed as a major success in Eugene. The Ducks got a stagnant baseball program out of the mud and there was more energy in the city for this squad than there has been in over a decade. After the loss, Oregon fans took to social media to express their gratitude for the great season, and show their support for the Ducks.
Here are some of the best reactions:
Oregon’s pitching has been really solid over the past few weeks, finding ways to win without their two best arms healthy.
Tonight it ran out of juice and will likely end up costing them the season. Really unfortunate, but not a complete surprise.

The coaching staff put the kid in an impossible position. I feel bad for him. Why take out Umlandt?

Is it September yet?

Last one of the year, and it’s to will the Ducks back to life. #GoDucks pic.twitter.com/zAxVR9iiRA

These guys aren’t quitting on the game, and we aren’t quitting on them either. Matt Dallas shaking off 96mph like a fly landed on his shoulder

And there’s the difference tonight. Oral Roberts has taken advantage of their opportunities tonight and Oregon hasn’t. 1st n 2nd no outs… bases loaded 1 out … and score only one run. Bummer. https://t.co/ZxpOfPeczt

Oregon is in complete meltdown mode right now. Couple of wild pitches and a bad throw to first on a routine play stretches the Oral Roberts lead to 7-4 in the 7th.

We wouldn’t be Oregon if we weren’t constantly snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

The Oregon pitching has just run out.

If you're asking questions about Oregon's lack of quality pitching, welcome to the 2022-23 seasons.

There was no reason to bring in McShane when the game was still within reach. That has to be asked postgame. Umlandt got 2 out and a runner on 2nd. Taking him out there just wasn't necessary.

The amount of Cottonwood cotton blowing across PK Park on TV is making my eyes itch.

No hanging heads in Eugene. Incredible season. Tough end.
This isn't the end of Oregon baseball. If anything, it's the start of something that could be really special down the road.

Agreed!
Need some much better pitching to compete in future though https://t.co/BHkTl5tvgR

As the teams go through the handshake line, hard not to be struck by the experienced, quality arms going through Oregon’s line in street clothes. Can only wonder how having one or two of them might have helped.
Sports can uplift your spirits, and can break your heart. #GoDucks

Bummer for Oregon and Mark Wasikowski. They fought like hell just to make the tournament and were two outs away from their first trip to Omaha since 1954. Sadly, the road ends at PK Park in a heartbreaker to Oral Roberts.
Still incredible they got this far.

Lots of fun watching this postseason run. ORU played better tonight. Congrats to them. https://t.co/mId3Ncl0eP
