How twin brothers Walker and Webber adds to their family lineage at Trinity as student athletes.

The twin duo of Webber and Walker McClinton has taken the Montgomery-area high school sports scene by storm. The brothers have helped Trinity Presbyterian win its first four games heading into Week 4 of the 2023 Alabama High School football season.

Walker, the starting quarterback for Trinity, connected with his brother for two touchdown passes in last week's road victory over Alabama Christian. Webber plays on both sides of the ball, adding two interceptions to his stat sheet total.

Their father David McClinton said the twin tandem has enjoyed being together and that their success on the field correlates to their dynamic at home.

"They do everything together. Since birth, they have been roommates and at 18-years-old they still are today," David McClinton said. "They got a bond that is different than what most people have. It's special to us because like always most siblings have their moments but they get along extremely well.

"Their quarterback-to-wide receiver duo has been going on since they were in the sixth grade. They've worked on that chemistry for so long now it's amazing to see it play out on Friday night."

A solid pedigree

Athletics was something that was embedded in the McClinton family DNA — with the twins being third-generation athletes at Trinity Presbyterian. David graduated from Trinity in the early 90s before playing football at Auburn from 1993-1995. Older brother Mac McClinton graduated from Trinity in 2021 where he was a First Team All-State selection and is a current member of the 2023 Auburn football team. Their grandfather is the legendary Buddy McClinton, who was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. Buddy still holds the Auburn season interception record with 18 and was named an All-American picking off nine passes for the Tigers back in 1969.

With a lineage like that, the pressure must be through the roof for the twins. However, David said the pathway Mac set for his younger siblings is was what motivated them to continue their football journeys and establish their name in the family record books.

"The best thing Mac did for the twins was showing them the extent of the grind, the offseason preparation and work ethic," David McClinton said. As parents, we were trying to put the brakes on Mac after a couple of injuries he suffered but he showed his brothers a great example of hard work. He set the tone for twins for what it takes to get to that next level and they took it all in."

Twin differences

Webber is older than Walker by 30 seconds, which means the twins have been competing since birth. On the field, the obvious difference between the two is their positions and jersey number — Walker dons No. 1, while Webber sports No. 28).

David broke down the twins' differences athletically, watching them grow into stellar high school players over the years. He says their differences only make Trinity an even stronger threat.

"Webber is the best natural athlete in the family," David McClinton said. "Mac and Walker are great athletes, but Webber has just a few more God-given tools you just can't teach. Webber can run and speed like that you don't come by a lot."

"Walker is one of the most personally driven people I ever known. He is a jokester off the field and likes to have a good time but when that helmet comes on he is extremely competitive. He is always ready to dog it out when that chin strap buckles and I think that's the edge he has over his brothers."

The next step

The twins are being recruited by schools all over the country, but feel they are a bit overlooked compared to other athletes around the state. The main focus for the family is watching each other succeed — whether it's on Fridays or Saturdays. David's family mantra has been is control what you can control and that has helped the twins navigate their next steps as they graduate next spring.

Trinity's head coach Brian Seymore is in his first year at the program. And with the undefeated start, David is enjoying what he's seeing from the team thus far. He believes Seymore has built a genuine relationship with his players and that it will only result in great things down the line.

"I love it. We are blessed to have a coach like Seymore he has a real buy-in to the program and he has made incremental adjustments week-by-week progressing this team to that next level," David said. "I feel like the best has yet to come for Trinity and I'm happy the twins can spend their final season under his great leadership."
