I wanted to offer my condolences to Dewey High head football head coach Ryan Richardson on the passing of his mother.

May and her other loved ones feel a sense of peace as they honor her and mourn her absence.

We sometimes refer to the death of someone as a “loss.”

In my mind, their presence remains very strong through love, memories and the hopes they are in a better place and still thinking of us.

Following are some summaries of pass sports reports that appeared in the E-E.

Oct. 16, 2002

Jordan Hughes found the right stride to finish 21st in the Frontier Valley cross country championship meet hosted by Bartlesville High. Hughes was the lone Bartlesville High runner to finish in the top 35. C.J. Black (18:08) came in 40th. The remainder of the Bruin squad featured Joseph Powell, Ryan Thompson, Michael Fooshee, Sage Lane and Robby Pinnick. Bartlesville finished eighth as a team.

Chance Chenoweth and Beau Bohuslavicky triggered a rally for the Oklahoma Wesleyan University baseball team, but Peru State still won, 11-7. Chenoweth singled to lead off the top of the fifth and light the fuse for a seven-run explosion. He eventually scored on Bohuslavicky's single. Later in the inning, Pecos Miller mashed a two-run hit. Jermaine Watkins drove home Scott Carmichael for another Eagle tally.

Darrell Jones turned out to be the big dog in the city bowling championships. Jones won the singles, all-events and scratch all-event titles. He tallied 2011 in all-events and 1822 in scratch all-events. The winning team included Eddie Sise, Bob Moody, Joe Wilcox, Max Clayman and Rick Gotcher. Chuck Marchant and Buddy Sanders combined to claim the doubles crown.

Dorea Potter displayed her links skills to win the Championship Flight feature — Low Gross Par 3's — during a Hillcrest Women's Golf Association playday. Mary Simpson recorded the low putts, while Darian Kedy boasted the low net total. Other feature winners included Bobbie Garrett ('A' Flight), Dorothy Parsons ('B' Flight) and Sandy Dirigo ('C' Flight).

Despite an 18-point eruption by Doug Tolin, the Sooner High Spartans fell in boys hardwood play to Tulsa Webster, 55-52. Ron Potter and Dennis VanLeeuwen contributed 13 and 11 points, respectively. Webster led at halftime, 30-19.

Jamie Elam spun a no-hitter to power the Caney Valley softball team past Nowata, 5-0. Nowata batters never hit the ball out of the infield — those who got their stick on Elam's hummers and hump-backed change-ups. Christy Noblit also turned in a strong mound effort on behalf of Nowata. Katie Core drove in one of Caney Valley's runs. In the fourth inning, Jaclyn Hargrove crossed home play for Caney Valley.

Oct. 20, 1999

Bartlesville High's football team had little trouble with Tulsa Rogers, 42-18. A 34-yard run by Danny Manning — off a reverse — helped set up a one-yard touchdown run by James Aubrey for the first score. In the second period, Adam Miller connected with Eric Rolfs for an 18-yard completion, leading to Dustin Davis' short touchdown plunge. David McPhillips hauled in three touchdown passes from Miller.
