Tulpehocken wins District 3 Class 2A team golf championship

Oct. 6—Tulpehocken won the District 3 Class 2A team championship Friday at Briarwood East Golf Club in York.

In the individual tournaments, several Berks golfers are leading or within two strokes of the lead after the first day of the 36-hole events, which conclude Saturday. Tee times begin at 10 a.m.

In Class 2A girls at Briarwood East, Hamburg's Erica Gerner has a five-stroke lead after shooting a 5-over 77 at Briarwood East.

In Class 3A boys at Honey Run Golf Club in York, Daniel Boone's Chase Yenser is one stroke back after a 2-under 70, and Fleetwood's Cameron Peffel is another stroke back and tied for fourth at 71.

In Class 3A girls at Honey Run, Wilson's Kayla Maletto, the defending champ, is one stroke back after shooting 1-over 73.

In the Class 2A team tournament, the Trojans won by five strokes over Pequea Valley as their top four scores totaled 35-over 323.

Ethan Beidler led the way with a 6-over 78. He was followed by Zach Crampton (81), Lewis Dieffenbach (82) and Zach Neuin (82).

Tulpehocken is the first Berks team champion since Wilson won the Class 3A title in 2020. It is the first Class 2A champ since Brandywine Heights won in 2017.

The Trojans' championship is the fifth overall for Berks. Wyomissing won Class 2A titles in 2012 and 2013.

Tulpehocken advances to a regional qualifier with District 5 on Oct. 9 at Iron Masters Country Club.

In Class 3A, Berks champ Fleetwood finished second at 16-over 304. Hershey won the championship at 9-over 297.

The team tournaments are run concurrently with the first round of the individual events.

In the Class 3A boys individual tournament, Yenser, a sophomore and the Berks champ, is tied for second with Central Dauphin's Joey Sembrot, behind Dallastown's Lane Krosse, the defending champ. Peffel, a freshman, is in a six-way tie for fourth.

Also making the cut of low 32 and ties from Berks were Gov. Mifflin's Nate Radwanski, 74, tied for 17th; Wilson's Gavin Siravo, 75, tied for 22nd; and Fleetwood's Ryan Hromiak, 77, tied for 30th.

Failing to make the cut were Twin Valley's Nevin Graham (80), Shane O'Doherty (84) and Nate Shaffer (89), and Conrad Weiser's Ethan Miller (92).

In Class 2A boys, Hamburg's Austin Zweizig and Beidler are tied for fifth at 78. Annville-Cleona's Reagan Flynn and Conestoga Christian's Clark Brubacher are tied for first at even-par 72.

Also making the cut of low 16 and ties were Wyomissing's Chase Maggs, 80, ninth; Brandywine Heights' Patrick Taylor and Berks Catholic's Braeden Stringer, 81, tied for 10th; and Neuin and Dieffenbach, 82, tied for 12th.

Failing to make the cut were Berks Catholic's JT Krynock (85), Kutztown's Colin Hamm (90) and High Point's Landon Richards (94).

In Class 3A girls, Warwick's Elle Overly leads at 72. Maletto, a three-time Berks champ, shot a 73 in last year's opening round before closing with a 70.

Other Berks golfers to make the cut of low 18 and ties were Exeter's Giulia Weisser, 79, tied for sixth; and Wilson's Kyla Quimby, 84, tied for 11th.

Conrad Weiser's Alexandra Trevena failed to make the cut after shooting a 95.

In Class 2A girls, Gerner leads Delone Catholic's Kat Keller.

Also making the cut of low eight and ties were Oley Valley's Jessica Howard, 85, fourth; and Elin Bogia, 94, seventh.

Schuylkill Valley's Abby McCaffery, who attends The King's Academy, shot 97 and did not make the cut.

District 3 will send the top 18 Class 3A boys finishers, top eight Class 2A boys finishers, top nine Class 3A girls finishers and top four Class 2A girls finishers to the PIAA tournaments Oct. 16-17 at Penn State. The Class 3A boys and girls will be at Penn State's Blue Course. The Class 2A boys and girls will be at Penn State's White Course.
