Tuesday's Top Prep Performers: Woodworth pitches shutout in Channel League opener

Highlights from Tuesday in high school spring sports:

BASEBALL

  • Josh Woodworth pitched a three-hit shutout with seven strikeouts and two walks and Dash Lopez went 3 for 3 with two RBIs to lead Ventura (3-4, 1-0) to a 3-0 victory over San Marcos in a Channel League opener.

  • Nate Gomez didn't allow an earned run while giving up four hits and striking out 10 in six innings and was 2 for 4 with an RBI at the plate, Jacob Stringer went 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs, Gavin Ramos finished 4 for 4 with two RBIs, and Gavin Marin scored two runs to lead Oxnard (5-1, 1-0) to a 10-1 victory over Buena in a Channel League opener. Nyko Garcia went 2 for 3 for the Bulldogs (0-6, 0-1).

  • Mario Franco was 3 for 4, Austin DeMello hit a solo home run, and Alec Fontyn had a hit and two RBIs for Rio Mesa (3-2-1, 0-1) in its 8-6 loss to Santa Barbara in a Channel League opener.

  • Bobby Ramirez was 2 for 3 and Riley Ortega went 1 for 3 with an RBI for Pacifica (2-4-1, 0-1) in its 9-1 loss to Dos Pueblos in a Channel League opener.

  • Jaden Kolkowski allowed five hits and a run in five innings, Daniel Morge pitched two shutout innings for the save, James Luderer was 1 for 3 with an RBI, and Dane Holt had an RBI to lead Thousand Oaks (3-3) to a 2-1 win over Moorpark. Connor Tutino allowed one hit and no runs in four innings for the Musketeers (3-5).

  • Peyton Visage was 3 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, Lucas Markand went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, Jayden Williams walked four times, Landon Parada had a double and an RBI, and Zach Nagy, Colten Rainer and Ethan Hall each had a hit as Royal (7-1) scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat Santa Monica 6-5.

  • Jackson Weir was 2 for 2 with two walks and two RBIs, Andrew Rosen had a double and two RBIs, Henry Rizzotti had two RBIs, and Tyler Kutsch was 2 for 3 with an RBI to lead Oak Park (1-2) to a 9-5 win over Malibu.

  • Nico Kajiwara pitched a three-hit shutout with eight strikeouts and went 2 for 3 with a double and two RBIs at the plate, Lucas Martinov was 2 for 3 with a double, Jake Barrett finished 2 for 3, and Ben Solomon had a double and an RBI to lead Grace Brethren (2-5) to a 5-0 victory over Hueneme.

  • Jordan Kingston allowed one earned run in five innings, Nate Castellon was 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI, Matthew Witkow went 2 for 4 with an RBI, Eamon Lynch was 2 for 3 with an RBI, Sean Cooper had an RBI, and Brandon Huffman was 1 for 3 with two runs scored to lead Calabasas (3-3) to a 14-1 victory over West Ranch.

  • Ethan Broome allowed two earned runs on two hits while striking out nine in six innings for Agoura in its 5-1 loss to Valencia.

  • Hayden Villa was 1 for 4 with an RBI and Adam Arth and Aiden Gomez each stole three bases for Foothill Tech in its 8-4 loss to San Marino.

SOFTBALL

  • Analia Lopez pitched a five-inning no-hitter with 12 strikeouts, Jasmine Reyes was 1 for 1 with a home run, two RBIs and three walks, Jocelyn Gomez went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, Sarah Coccillos was 1 for 2 with a double and four RBIs, Hailey Olivera was 1 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, Alexah Espinosa finished 2 for 3, and Mariah Reyes was 1 for 3 to lead Rio Mesa (3-0, 1-0) to a 12-0 win over Santa Barbara in a Channel League opener.

  • Baylany Magana pitched a complete game with five strikeouts and went 2 for 3 with an RBI at the plate, Natalie Rodarte and Kayla Lorona each went 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and Layla Mukul had an RBI and scored two runs to lead Oxnard (4-2, 1-0) to a 5-2 victory over Buena in a Channel League opener. Angelina Delgado was 1 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs for the Bulldogs (0-2, 0-1).

  • Chloe Simpson went 2 for 2 for Ventura (1-2-1, 0-1) in its 14-2 loss to San Marcos in a Channel League opener.

  • Paityn Lavin allowed one run on six hits while striking out four in a complete-game performance, Terrianna Kelley was 2 for 3 with two doubles and an RBI, Giabella Otani went 1 for 3 with an RBI, Kamryn Guthrie was 1 for 3 with a double, and Ilove'a Brittingham went 1 for 3 to lead Oaks Christian (1-1) to a 2-1 victory over Valencia.

  • Rosy Salazar allowed three hits while striking out 12 in a complete-game effort, Cam Kenny was 2 for 2 with two RBIs, Ava DePew went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, and Addi Feola was 2 for 3 to lead Grace Brethren (4-0-1) to a 10-1 win over Village Christian.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

  • Richard Cousino had eight kills and a block, Jason Mejia finished with 22 assists, Daniel Shander had six kills and three aces, and JF Referente had three kills and four digs to lead Rio Mesa (3-0) to a 25-15, 25-8, 25-5 sweep of Carpinteria.

  • JP Mawas finished with 20 assists, Danny Guerrero had 13 kills, and Xander Young had 24 service points to lead Oxnard (1-2) to a 25-10, 25-10, 25-18 sweep of Moorpark.

  • Camarillo defeated Hueneme 25-9, 25-21, 25-10.

  • Alex Newman finished with 10 kills, Nikko Songco had nine kills, and Sinjon Laughton and Niko Papanicolaou each had six kills for Oak Park in its 25-19, 15-25, 26-24, 25-17 loss to Dos Pueblos.

BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

  • Camarillo defeated visiting Rio Mesa 100-31 in a nonleague meet. For Camarillo, Diego Montag won the 1,600 (4:36.46) and 3,200 (10:05.91). David Caldino won the 100 (11.09) and 200 (22.78). JJ Bittner won the 110 hurdles (15.76). Jacob McDonough won the 400 (53.54). CJ Takano won the 800 (2:05.75). Colin Schafer won the long jump (18-10.50). Calvin Mehuron won the triple jump (35-08). Alonso Herrera won the shot put (40-04). Jason Kamassah won the discus (116-02). Jayce Ward won the pole vault (8-0). For Rio Mesa, Justin De Leon won the 300 hurdles (43.44) and Jackson Knowles won the high jump (6-02).

GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

  • Camarillo defeated visiting Rio Mesa 116-15 in a nonleague meet. For Camarillo, Taylor Monet won the 100 hurdles (17.65), 300 hurdles (49.95) and long jump (15-09). Gianna Vazquez won the 1,600 (5:38.52). Helen Rieckewald-Schmidt won the 3,200 (13:05.98). Carisa Legaspi won the 400 (63.74). Grace Soberanis won the 100 (13.03) Stella Alessi won the 200 (27.49). Samantha Villavicencio won the 800 (2:29.74). Brooklyn Bell won the high jump (4-08). Kayden Coyle won the triple jump (30-04.25). Trinity Tipton won the discus (115-03). Charlotte Deardorff won the pole vault (6-0). For Rio Mesa, Bautista, Kalea won the shot put (30-01).

BOYS TENNIS

  • Oak Park improved to 3-0 with an 11-7 win over Newbury Park. For the Panthers, Kei Ohya won two singles sets and Karthik Tholudur and Jason Kiang swept their doubles sets.

  • Royal defeated Chaminade 14-4.

BOYS GOLF

  • Max Emberson shot a 73 to earn medalist honors and Nick Benton had a 76 as Oaks Christian opened the season with a 389-426 victory over Oak Park at the Ojai Valley Inn. Alex Cheng shot a 78 to lead the Eagles.
