Tuesday's prep highlights: Hayes the hero in Trojans' extra-inning walk-off win

Mar. 27—In baseball

LeRoy 15, Blue Ridge 0. The Panthers (3-3) got off to a hot start, scoring seven runs in the first inning on their way to besting the Knights (0-5). Brock Owens picked up his first win of the season on the mound. Cole Wilson paced LeRoy's offense with two doubles and three RBI, and Jack Bogema and Andrew Fleming each had two RBI.

In softball

Armstrong-Potomac 9, Blue Ridge 8. The Trojans (3-0) and Knights (1-5) headed to extra innings tied at 4, and both teams doubled their score in the eighth inning before Kaylyn Hayes hit a walk-off RBI single in the ninth to give A-P the win. Hayes and Tinley Parkerson led the winning effort at the plate. Hayes had four hits, including two doubles and a triple, and three RBI. Parkerson also drove in three runs and tallied three hits with a home run. Addison Roos paced Blue Ridge out of the leadoff spot with two hits, a walk and three runs scored.

St. Joseph-Ogden 7, Bishop McNamara 2. The Spartans (4-1) looked good in nonconference play behind a complete-game, six-strikeout pitching display from Madison Stevens. Timera Blackburn-Kelly recorded a pair of hits, runs and RBI. Grace Osterbur had two hits, and Hayden Dahl added three RBI.

Salt Fork 17, Heritage 2. The Storm (3-3) only notched six hits, but 10 walks and three Hawk (0-3) errors led to a lopsided victory. Macie and Morgan Russell combined for five RBI and five runs scored, and Alexa Jamison added three more runs scored to lead Salt Fork. Karli McGee was solid in the circle, striking out five batters in four innings. Brooklynn Powell and Destanee Morgan drove in Heritage's lone runs.

In girls' soccer

Centennial 4, Uni High 2. After trailing the Chargers (2-1) 4-0 at halftime, the Illineks (0-4) made a comeback effort but fell just short. Sophie Anderson and Anna Williams scored for Uni High, Cali Cooper tallied an assist and Xenia Mongwa had six saves.

Mahomet-Seymour 5, Urbana 0. The Bulldogs (2-1) won their second straight game behind Gwen Cambron's hat trick and Jaycee Fancher's two-goal, three-assist performance. Also recording assists for M-S were Izzy Lietz and Paislee Welge. The Tigers (4-1) lost their first of the season. Nox Macdougall came up with 13 saves to limit the damage.

Mattoon 3, Arthur Christian 1. The Conquering Riders (1-4) went into halftime in a 1-1 tie but couldn't keep pace in the second half. Lucy Rutledge scored the team's lone goal, and Libby Henry saved 14 shots.
