TSSAA basketball playoffs: Wild week moves 3 teams into Nashville area boys Small Class rankings

There was a lot of movement in the Tennessean’s Nashville area Small Class boys rankings after last week’s TSSAA basketball playoffs action.

The Small Class list consists of Class 1A, 2A and Division II-A schools. Results were compiled from games between Feb. 19-24. 

1. Providence Christian (26-4) — PCA defeated Trinity Christian 68-57 to reach the Division II-A state semifinals for the first time in school history. Aiden Bolden led with 14 points off the bench. Last week: No. 1.

2. Whites Creek (21-5) — The Cobras’ best season since 2017-18 continues after a 39-38 victory over East Nashville in the District 7-2A Tournament championship. Last week: No. 2.

3. Summertown (22-9) — The Eagles held on for a 76-72 win over Community in the Region 5-2A Tournament quarterfinals behind Kurt Burleson’s 24 points and Grayson Burleson’s 21. Last week: No. 6.

4. Webb School - Bell Buckle (20-13) — The Feet will stay in the top five until further notice. Their late postseason run ended in a 63-51 loss at Silverdale in the Division II-A Tournament quarterfinals. Last week: No. 3. 

5. Columbia Academy (26-6) — The Bulldogs’ season is over after a 53-52 loss to FACS in the DII-A state quarterfinals. It marked the end of a wild postseason for Columbia Academy. Five of its eight playoff games were decided by four points or less. Last week: No. 4. 

6. Goodpasture (26-7) — The Cougars’ bid to reach the DII-A state championship for the fourth consecutive season ended with a 72-50 loss at Evangelical Christian in the state quarterfinals. Last week: No. 5.

7. Cannon County (22-7) — The Lions have won five of their last six games by double digits after defeating Lewis County 77-51 in the Region 5-2A Tournament quarterfinals. Last week: Not ranked. 

8. East Nashville (13-8) — The Eagles bounced back from losing to Whites Creek with a 69-29 win over STEM Academy. Cortez Murphy scored 23 points for East. Last week: No. 7.

9. Eagleville (19-8) — The Eagles have won five games in a row after defeating Culleoka 83-50 in the Region 5-1A Tournament quarterfinals. Jackson Nichols led with 17 points. Last week: Not ranked. 

10. Santa Fe (23-4) — Santa Fe is back to its winning ways with leading scorer Auden Slaughter’s return to the lineup. He scored 34 points in a 52-44 win over Richland in the District 10-1A Tournament championship. Last week: Not ranked. 

Dropped out: Ezell-Harding, Friendship Christian, York Institute.
