Trev Alberts leaving Nebraska for Texas A&M opening

Nebraska athletic director Trev Alberts’s tenure in Lincoln has ended. On Wednesday afternoon, Alberts decided to take the open athletic director job at Texas A&M.

Alberts’s decision is surprising, to say the least. In 2021, he took over as the university’s athletic director after a 13-year tenure at the University of Nebraska Omaha, marking a major homecoming for the former Husker linebacker.

As a Nebraska legend, it seemed likely that Alberts could be the athletic director as long as the athletic department performed well on and off the field of competition.

Now, just less than three years later, Alberts has decided to leave the university. To hire Alberts, Texas A&M had to pay Nebraska a $4 million buyout.
